Medroid Cowork / Referrals
Keep the referral moving after you send it.
A referral is a handoff between people and organizations. Cowork helps your team prepare the work and coordinate the next step within a defined, supported process.

Prepare a packet the next team can use.
Organize the referral request and relevant supporting information. Identify what is available and what still needs to be supplied. The referring clinician confirms the clinical content and intended destination.
Give the next step an owner.
Distinguish “ready for review” from “sent,” and “sent” from “accepted” or “scheduled.” Define who follows up when information is missing, a destination declines, or the patient cannot be reached.

Watch a referral take shape.

Bring the handoff back to the record.
Decide what your practice needs to see to consider a referral complete. That may be receipt of the consultation report or a documented reason the process did not proceed, not merely successful transmission of the original request.
A practical starting scope
Start with one referral type and a supported destination process. For example, prepare the packet, check for missing administrative information, and organize an authorized follow-up list. Review the exception cases before expanding the workflow.
Will Cowork choose the specialist? Referral decisions remain with the authorized clinician and the practice's process. The workflow can support preparation and coordination; it does not independently decide care.
Can it guarantee the patient is scheduled? No. Scheduling depends on the receiving organization, patient, coverage, and other factors. Measure the actual stage reached.
Can we use it for incoming referrals? Discuss your inbound process separately. Required information, clinical review, system access, and scheduling boundaries differ from outbound referrals.
